Last year I was at the ASA Congress in Sydney and missed out on the Fitness and Health Expo, this year I’m pleased to say I’ll be able to go. So what am I looking forward to?

FitnessHealthExpo-30Apr16

The West Coast Super Show.

First up the Natural Bodybuilding and Sports Modelling competition, hosted by the International Natural Bodybuilding Association (INBA). Having judged a few of these competitions in my past I look forward to watching the line-up go through their routines. I always leave incredibly amazed and a tiny bit motivated after watching these competition. This one is part of the largest event in Australian natural competition history with the creation of the INBA/PNBA Australian Elite Pro Qualifier League. Competitors at this event can qualify to compete for a chance to receive return flights and accommodation to the US for the INBA/PNBA Natural Olympia.

The Head2Head Perth Invitational and the Perth Classic.

Many years ago I was fortunate to score a ticket the weightlifting competition at the Sydney Olympics. These events are great fun as the audience yells to help the guys on stage lift the weight. This Invitational is a new weightlifting format that sees four lifters compete on four platforms at the same time. They have six minutes to register their best snatch and six minutes to record best clean and jerk. The lifts are totalled on a live scoreboard. The top four lifts from all heats then compete in a final for both Men and Women. Meanwhile, the Grizzly’s Perth Classic is a traditional weightlifting competition. I can only imagine how loud this one is going to be.

The Australian Raw Powerlifting Championships and International Pacific Powerlifting Invitational.

This competition is reserved for the strongest men and women in the world. It will include current Superheavyweight World Champions who will attempt to set new records.

Ninja Challenge: Expo Edition.

This Challenge will see aspiring ninjas test their strength and coordination on a Ninja Warrior-style obstacle course. There is no limit to the number of attempts per competitor at the closest thing to American Ninja Warrior in Australia.

Super Squad Competition.

A new concept for ‘functional fitness lovers’ whatever that is ?? Evidently it will see teams sharing the load of skills, weight and conditioning.

In between watching all of that I’ll also be checking out the new high tech gadgets.

Of less interest to me but maybe for you will be the latest fitness gear, nutritional products, and the new Healthy Living Stage which will run free workouts and talks from fitness experts including pro-surfer Sally Fitzgibbons, fitness model and coach Zac Smith and UK fitness star Simeon Panda. For those of you considering a career in fitness the WA Fitness Industry Conference (WAFIC) is on at the same time.

Just hearing about everything on offer has left me pondering …

  1. I think I need to get into training for watching all those fit bodies performing unbelievable feats
  2. Maybe this year I’ll find the ultimate couch potato fat burning widget
  3. First up though, I’ve been invited to the preview event featuring a trial run of ‘Ninja Academy’ which is going off in the US. Wish me luck guys.

The Fitness & Health Expo will be held August 20-21 at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre. It’s open each day from 10am – 5pm. Tickets can be pre-booked online or you can pay $25 at the door.
